I decided not to make my own system and settled with an already existing one, which is Utopia TTRPG. One reason is that the previous iteration wasn’t awful, but also wasn’t good. And I don’t wanna get into game design that deep, cause it’s hard.

The other reason is that I have conceived an idea most ingenious, and I want to spend time on it, instead of reinventing the wheel.

This also made me think about how much needlessly complicated some systems can get without much of a reason. For example, I made armor have “durability based defense” and “passive defense”. I thought that would be more immersive, but now, a year later, I think it was just gonna be annoying.

Regarding the system itself, some terms from Utopia have been adapted to our common way of referring to things, and I tweaked some things here and there.

The main system stayed mostly intact, but suffered big changes in character creating process.

Most changes were influenced by different TTRPG systems. You may say that at this point it’s the amalgamation of D&D, Mothership, Stars Without Number and Utopia.

In retrospect, not a good idea.

The first version used during the Prologue. Based mostly on Mothership 1e (M1e) with some modifications mainly to character and class stats and battle systems. Here’s the big stuff:

  • Leveling system was remade to be more traditional and like one that we’re used to. Originally there’s no straight-line leveling in M1e.
  • Made system less dependent on Stress meter, although it’s still present
  • Classes and class traits were reworked a bit
  • Made battle system a little more dynamic with addition of Major and Minor Actions
  • Added Trickster class to add a bit more variety to classes
  • Added Voided class
  • Completely remade character file, because I don’t wanna fuck with original PDFs
  • Space travel was made faster and easier
  • Some things that are not that interesting or weren’t used at all
