Merchants won’t always be there to provide you with what you need, or maybe you just love experimenting. Crafting allows you to take raw materials and combine them into something that will assist in your survival.
Tiers and Rarities
All items are divided into rarities - Crude, Common, Enhanced, Advanced, Elite, Prime. Rarity represents how complex and/or powerful the item is. Any weapon, piece of armor, gadget, consumable should have a rarity. If you want to craft, repair or even modify equipment of whatever rarity, you need to have a respective Talent.
Crafting itself comes in tiers.
- T0 - you craft with your bare hands and preferably a surface, you may craft Crude items this way
- T1 - this requires a tool station of some sort, based on what type of equipment you make, you may craft Common and Enhanced items and components
- T2 - at this point you need some sort of fabrication device, it won’t do the job for you, but it will make the finer adjustments, you may craft Advanced and Elite items and components
- T3 - now this is where heavy machinery is needed, not literally, you may craft Prime items and components
Crafting Time
Different rarities require varying amount of time to craft.
| Items | Components | |
|---|---|---|
| Crude | 30 min | --- |
| Common | 1 hour | 15 min |
| Enchanced | 3 hours | 45 min |
| Advanced | 8 hours | 2 hours |
| Elite | 24 hours | 6 hours |
| Prime | 72 hours | 18 hour |
Components
Components are elements required to craft any item. They come in 3 general categories - Material, Refinement and Power components. Different varieties of items will require different amount of each. There are also other varieties of components, not used id direct crafting.
Depending on the nature of components, they can be used in certain fields of crafting, you cannot build a bandage out of solid steel. Most of components are generic and do not posses any effects by themselves, but some may.
Components may be crafted, harvested or foraged.
Material Components
MC are used to build the structural parts of items. These are the most abundant form of components and the most common ones used in crafting. The more powerful they are, the more durable and versatile they are.
Crafting
Material components can generally be crafted by combining lesser materials into more powerful alloy or composite.
When crafting a component, a Control check is made. Upon fail, all components are destroyed. Crude materials cannot be used.
- Enhanced Material
- 2 Common Material
- DC 12 Control check
- Advanced Material
- 2 Enhanced Material
- DC 18 Control check
- Elite Material
- 2 Advanced Material
- DC 24 Control check
- Prime Material
- 2 Elite Material
- DC 30 Control check
Refinement Components
RC are small stuff that makes an item lighter, smaller or more efficient. This might be precious metals, alchemical substrates or even nanotechnology.
Crafting
Refinement components are created by engineering material components artificially.
When crafting a component, a Control check is made. Upon fail, all components are destroyed. Crude materials cannot be used.
- Enhanced Refinement
- 1 Common Material, 1 Enhanced Material
- DC 14 Control check
- Advanced Refinement
- 1 Enhanced Material, 1 Advanced Material
- DC 20 Control check
- Elite Refinement
- 1 Advanced Material, 1 Elite Material
- DC 26 Control check
- Prime Refinement
- 1 Elite Material, 1 Prime Material
- DC 32 Control check
Power Components
PC are the rarest form of crafting component and are not seen in many items, especially in more common ones. They produce or store usable energy to power larger systems. This might be bio- or liquid fuel, power cells, coils, or combustion chambers.
Crafting
Power components are manufactured using other components of the same rarity.
When crafting a component, a Control check is made. Upon fail, all components are destroyed. Crude materials cannot be used.
- Common Power
- 1 Common Material, 1 Common Refinement
- DC 11 Control check
- Enhanced Power
- 1 Enhanced Material, 1 Enhanced Refinement
- DC 17 Control check
- Advanced Power
- 1 Advanced Material, 1 Advanced Refinement
- DC 23 Control check
- Elite Power
- 1 Elite Material, 1 Elite Refinement
- DC 29 Control check
- Prime Power
- 1 Prime Material, 1 Prime Refinement
- DC 35 Control check
Ship Components
SC are different from other ones, since they cannot be used for normal crafting. Instead they are used as spare parts for ship construction and repairs.
Crafting
Ship components are composed of a large amount of crafting components. For crafting, all SC are considered Items of Advanced rarity (8 hours of crafting).
One SC needs 30 units. Any type and rarity of components can be combined and used in crafting, however higher rarity ones give more units, also you need to use at least one component of each type. Any unit overflow is lost.
- Common - 1 unit.
- Enhanced - 2 units.
- Advanced - 3 units.
- Elite - 4 units.
- Prime - 5 units.
Foraging
This is the act of spending a long period of time searching for something specific. The searches are thorough and include looking above and beneath the surface when available.
Whenever you wish to forage for components, you choose how much time you wish to spend and make a (usually) Perception check. You may spend from 1 to 24 hours, the more time you spend, the higher chance you have. You start with one Disfavor and every 4 hours of search you gain a Favor. You have to decide how much time you will be spending before starting.
The area should theoretically contain the resource you are looking for, for a successful search. Upon a successful check, you get a random amount of the resource. If you roll a value two times the required difficulty, the time you spend is halved. On fail, you spend the full time, but no resource is found.
Items
Items have multiple categories you choose to craft. Every item has it’s own specific modifier limits.
- Weapon
- Fast (1 AP)
- Moderate (2 AP)
- Slow (3 AP or more)
- Armor
- Shield
- Chest
- Head
- Hand
- Foot
- Usable
- Consumables
- Gadgets
When crafting an item, you may choose features it will have and the Warden (me) will tailor it based on your choice (I don’t want to give you the full power and it’s pretty complicated).
The more complex and extensive item’s design and functionality, the more components it requires to craft it. Rarity of an item depends on what rarity components were used in crafting. Higher rarity components can be used in place of lower ones, but not otherwise.
Gadgets are special. They can have virtually any functionality. This is the “etc.” of the categories.
